Acceptable Ads, explained

Some ad blockers let certain ads through by default. Here is what that means, and why Clearfold does not do it.

What it is

"Acceptable Ads" is a program that keeps a list of ads allowed through participating blockers. Ads must follow rules on size, placement and labeling. Blockers that take part turn the list on by default.

Who pays

According to the program's own published terms, large companies pay a share of the extra revenue to be on the list, while smaller sites do not. That means a payment decides some of what you see, even if you never agreed to it.

Why we never do it

How we pay the bills

Clearfold is free for core blocking. Optional Pro subscriptions fund the work.

If a site works better with ads allowed, you can pause Clearfold on that site yourself. It is your choice.
